A man who helped school the Duchess of Sussex on British etiquette ahead of her first proper meeting with the late Queen says he's ?"disappointed" with how she and Prince Harry have conducted themselves since stepping back from royal life.

Edmund Fry made headlines around the world when the then-Meghan Markle popped into his tea shop in Los Angeles soon after it was revealed she was dating Prince Harry in 2017.

British-born Fry helped to prepare the actress on ?some aspects of royal protocol and the rules around having tea when she visited his famous shop, Rose Tree Cottage in Pasadena.

Fry was a big supporter of the duchess until she and Prince Harry started to speak out against the royal family once they moved to America.

"When they were first talking [about Megxit], they were talking about being ambassadors to the world, helping out the Commonwealth, being involved with disabled people," Fry told The Sun.

"They had a great opportunity. There's not really been much heard from them on anything like that."

He says customers to the shop, which he has ran for 40 years with his American-born wife, have completely turned against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

"I mean, the majority of people were appalled. They were appalled with the business of what was said and of talking about his family," Fry says.

The duchess has kept a low profile of late, appearing in public just the once in recent weeks at an awards night in New York.

But that event turned into a media storm when they couple claimed they had been involved in a "near catastrophic car chase" with the paparazzi when leaving the venue.

Prince Harry will be in London this week to give evidence in the High Court as he sues the Mirror Group Newspapers over claims of phone hacking and illegal intrusion into his private life.

Meghan is expected to remain in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
