Ahead of the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony's broadcast, royal fans got a sneak peek at a special message delivered by Prince William at the opening of the event ¨C all the way from space!
William, 40, opened Friday's awards ceremony in Boston with a short film that was presented to the audience at MGM Music Hall at Fenway.
?"Of the many wonders of the natural world that surround each of us every day, it is only from space that we can fully comprehend the gift that is our home," William says in the film, which takes himself and the audience from the moon to Earth, per People.
"Earth holds such splendour and gives us many things ¨C beauty, curiosity, joy, and most importantly, Earth gives us life.
"For too long, many of us have taken for granted everything our planet gives us. The urgency needed to save the planet is ever-accelerating, while the time we have to make meaningful changes is ebbing away," he continued, before paying tribute to former US President John F. Kennedy.
"But just as President John F. Kennedy had faith that humankind could put a man on the moon, I have the same faith today that we can repair and regenerate our planet in this critical decade. From Moonshot to Earthshot, the seemingly unsolvable can be solved," William continued.
"Together we can achieve a sustainable future for generations to come. Together, we will change the future of our planet."
It's been reported that William chose Boston ?to host the second annual awards ceremony as a tribute to Kennedy, who was born in Brookline.
When he presented the awards to the five winners on the night ¨C one of which was ?the Queensland Indigenous Women Ranger Network for the Ocean category ¨C William spoke about how Kennedy inspired him to create the Earthshot Prize.
"When I founded this Prize in 2020, it was with the ambition to harness the same spirit of ingenuity that inspired President John F. Kennedy to challenge the American people to put a person on the moon within a decade," William said on Friday night Boston time.
"So, it has been an honour to share the stories of our Earthshot winners and finalists from the heart of his hometown."
The ceremony airs on BBC on Sunday and, for Australians, will be streamed ?on the Earthshot Prize's YouTube channel on Monday.
Prince William and Kate Middleton stunned as they walked the green carpet at the 2022 Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony, the reason for and conclusion of their three-day tour of the United States.
All eyes were on Kate's gown, a bright green off-the-shoulder Solace London design, which she ?rented from UK designer gown rental platform HURR for $134.
William, meanwhile, opted to rewear his blue velvet blazer, which we've seen him in at past royal events.?
At the ceremony, William presented an Indigenous Australian collective with an Earthshot Prize for the Ocean category, and the couple also ran into their wedding singer, Ellie Goulding.
?Hidden in Kate's ensemble, however, was a tribute that has had everyone talking.
Notably, Kate accessorised her look with Princess Diana's ?Art Deco emerald and diamond choker, which was made for Queen Mary by Garrard in 1921 from emeralds gifted by the Ladies of India in 1911.
It is part of a larger parure of emerald and diamond pieces, which were inherited by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Diana was fond of wearing it as a headband, much to the Queen's dismay.?
Prince William met with United States President Joe Biden on the second day of his trip to Boston.
The Prince of Wales and Biden greeted each other warmly despite the freezing temperatures, with the President's first words to the Prince being, "Where's your top coat?"
The pair talked for 30 minutes about the Earthshot Prize, Prince William's most ambitious project to date. William shared some stories of the finalists, as well as his long-term ambition for the prize, according to his spokesperson.?
William also took the opportunity to thank Biden for his appearance at his grandmother's funeral in September.?
"They both shared warm memories of Her Majesty," added the spokesperson.
While her husband was off meeting the US President, Catherine, Princess of Wales dropped by Harvard University to speak to experts on early childhood development.
Looking elegant in a black and white hounds tooth dress, the mum-of-three diligently took notes as she spoke to experts and researchers on the scientific advances that can benefit children in the future.
She also took part in somewhat of a Harvard tradition?, signing the guest book just like her father-in-law, the then-Prince Charles, did 36 years ago on his visit to the university.?
On the second day of their visit to Boston, Prince William and Catherine got a little taste of home.
Henry Dynov-Teixeira, eight, was waiting outside the Greentown Labs in Somerville, northwest of Boston, to present Catherine with a bunch of roses.
He was dressed in a guards' uniform, bought by his mum after their recent visit to the UK.
The Prince and Princess of Wales leave the Greentown Labs on Thursday December 1.
Their co-ordinated 'couple dressing' was no accident with royal visit wardrobes planned months in advance.
Prince William and Catherine were all smiles despite the trailer for Prince Harry and Meghan's Netflix docu-series being released during their visit to Boston, dominating headlines and nearly overshadowing the royal engagements.?
Since 2011, Greentown Labs?has nurtured a community of climate pioneers who are working to design and implement a?more sustainable world.
Founded by entrepreneurs, Greentown Labs brings together start-ups,? corporates and investors to foster ingenuity and collaboration.
These innovators were themed in alignment with the five Earthshot Prize categories: Fix Our Climate, Protect and Restore Nature, Build a Waste Free World, Revive Our Oceans and Clean Our Air.
